  1. Girl with a pearl earring,Jan Vermeer
(c.1665-1666; Oil on canvas, 44.5 x 39 cm; Royal Cabinet of Paintings Mauritshuis, The Hague).

It describes a young and beautiful girl who is looking over her shoulder directly to the viewer.
She has got long blonde hair and she is wearing a kind of a hairband in her head. She is also wearing a white blouse and a brown cloak. What stands out the most is her pearl earring which is shinny and catches the viewer's eyes inmediately.
I have chosen this picture because it is simple and also because of her expression. There is something in her glance that has attracted my attention.

  2. The Arnolfini Portrait, Jan van Eyck
(1434; Oil on oak panel of 3 vertical boards, 82.2 × 60 cm; National Gallery, London).
This painting is a portrait of the Arnolfini Marriage. It was painted by Jan Van Eyck in 1434 and it is set in this couple´s bedroom. In this picture we can see many symbols. Some of them are:
-The woman stands near the bed and the shoes suggest conventional gender rules.
-Some people think that she was pregnant but art historians say her dress was fashionable at the time it was painted.
-Next to the husband there are oranges that might refer to fertility and they are linked with the Garden of Eden.
-The dog symbolizes the fidelity the marriage must follow.
The husband is taking the hand of his wife and he is seeing off their visitors at the same time. We can see them at the mirror which is in the background.
This painting has a perfect technique and Van Eyck paints all the details in such a way that it seems like a photography. We can recognize it in the dog or in the way of treating the fur cape of the man.

  3. Pieter Bruegel painted "Children's games in 1554.
The painting shows an urban scene where a lot of childrens appear playing about 84 games.
On the right of the painting we can see an example of excellent perspective that gives the impression of depth, and on the left we can see an example of a traditional flemish landscape. This two examples are typical of this artistic period, the renaissance.
I like this painting because I think that is funny and colourfull.
